The Rev. Dr. Jocelynn Hughes (she/her)
Jocelynn is currently the Director of Operations at "CA House," the PCUSA, UMC, and UCC campus ministry to UC Davis. A life-long Episcopalian, she felt called to ordination in high school, but wondered how God could use a ballerina for ministry. After earning her BA in Philosophy and Religion at Goucher College, she was awarded a fellowship for the PhD program in Philosophy at the University of South Florida. After completing her MA and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies there, her Bishop said, “Go to seminary,” and so she headed to Yale, where she earned an M.Div.
After ordination in 2004, she served as Associate Rector for children, youth, and young adults at St. Andrew’s in Encinitas, CA. Then, in 2008, she was called to be the Lutheran Episcopal Campus Chaplain at The Belfry, where she served for 10 years. Jocelynn rebuilt the student ministry there and, in 2012, launched a young adult service corps program called “LEVN." Due to the changing needs of her family, she left the Belfry to become a primary parent in 2018. During this hiatus, she earned a Doctor of Ministry from Emory, focusing on Church Leadership and Community Engagement. From 2020-2022, she was Rector of St. David’s Church and Preschool in San Diego.
Jocelynn is a mom of 3 rapidly growing kids and has been happily married for over 20 years. The family enjoys hockey, dance, Broadway musicals, and theme parks. They also love playing with their pet family members: a rescue dog named Sophia and a parakeet named Eliza.
